Five Wrinkles

Stumbled upon this poem I wrote when I was 19.

Beef jerky
Saved for road trips
Up north
Where we found
A lot

A lot of station changes
C.D.s flying.
Lewis and Clark
Had nothing on us,
Or was it Lois and Clark?
Where was superman?

FUNYUN rings on every finger
Mile 228,
Only the grease rings survive,
Ashes in the backseat from going 95.

Soda rings in the cup holder
Pee trails at mile 229
The Waffle House
Too far away.

A biscuit and gravy for breakfast.
Star gazing in the early morning,
Or late night darkness
COLD!

I miss the hot pavement
Of the dust trail town,
But I didn't know that
Green was a color.

Second wind
And grease-faced
Driving HOME
On three hours of sleep.

Not for a concert.
For them,
Or for him.
Enjoy the ride.

The five wrinkles
On the back
Of my right ankle
Speak about my travels.
